Melbourne Children's Clinic response to Corona Virus Covid-19
Practitioners and staff at MCC are committed to protecting our staff, patients & the wider community from the risk of transmission of Covid-19 virus.
We are a specialist paediatric clinic and do not provide assessment and treatment for acutely unwell children.
In response to the recommendations for physical distancing, many of our practitioners are seeing patients via Telehealth (video conferencing). This is the best way to enable you and your kids to stay at home, and for us to keep you and ourselves safe. In most cases appointments can be very effectively carried out via Telehealth; our paediatric assessments are mostly informed by collecting information verbally from parents and children, interaction with and observation of the child, as well as reviewing previous reports and results where appropriate. If you have previous reports, please email them to us before your appointment. There will of course be situations in which face to face assessment is needed to supplement this information and your Doctor or Allied Health specialist can advise if this is necessary. If you have a smart phone, a laptop/ computer or tablet you will be able to use this technology. After your consultation we ask that you telephone reception to arrange payment by credit card, and we will send you your receipt along with any reports/ correspondence, referrals and pathology or radiology requests. Prescriptions can be sent directly to your pharmacy.
Medicare now provides rebates for telehealth consultations with Paediatricians and Allied Health Practitioners. You will need a valid GP referral in most cases to enable us to submit your claim to Medicare, and your child needs to be present for the consultation. Please also have current weight and height measurements. We are a private clinic and do not bulk bill, so there will be an out of pocket gap for your consultation. If you have reached the Medicare safety net, you will receive 80% of the gap back. We understand that this is a time of financial uncertainty for some of you; if these fees are difficult please discuss during your appointment as your child’s health and wellbeing is paramount.
You should NOT attend Melbourne Children's Clinic in person for your scheduled appointment if you or your child are unwell or have had recent contact with Covid-19.
Patients and family who are attending in person are asked to check in at reception then wait in their car; you will be phoned by the practitioner when they are ready to see you.
Our staff are adhering to strict hand hygiene and the surfaces in the clinic are disinfected regularly and in between patients.
Please use the hand sanitiser provided at reception on arrival and on departure, and please pay by card, not cash.
If you are attending in person, we ask that only one parent or carer attends with your child to comply with physical distancing requirements.
If you or your child is acutely unwell with possible symptoms of Covid-19 virus you should call your GP or the Covid-19 Hotline on 1800 675 398.
